"AOL MarketPlace" , according to http://www.aolmedianetworks.com/index.php?id=1973 - is an AOL-branded (white labeled) version of Google AdWords.

AOL (Time Warner) acquired Advertising.com in 2004, and they subsequently integrated Advertising.com's banner ad network into their "High Reach" advertising product.

Both of these advertising products - AOL Search MarketPlace and High Reach - have been under development lately and AOL has been rolling out a whole new portfolio of video and "rich media" solutions. It looks to me like AOL is making a concerted effort to re-establish a strong position in the web marketing world by, among other things, offering advertisers new ways to, um, spend money.
